Lake Fork Guide Heath Hardwick
"After two days of hard fishing on our own with very limited success, we met our guide Heath at the Lake Fork Marina Store (which by the way is the best place to stay, eat and buy your lures, they've got what you need and it is very reasonable.) We had talked to a lot of other fisherman that were there and no one was catching anything. Needless to say we weren't to optimistic, especially since there were 25mph winds and lake wind advisories that day. Within 5 minutes of getting in Heath's boat, I knew we were going to have a good day. Heath took the time to show me his electronics and teach me in a way I could understand, I could tell that Heath had done his homework and knew what he was doing. Within the next 5 minutes we were in some of the best looking water I had ever seen. There were times when there were boats all around and we were the only ones pulling in fish. Judging by the harsh weather and the very finicky bite, we would have surely been skunked if Heath hadn't been there. Between my dad and I, we have a combined fishing experience of over 85 years, But, we both learned some invaluable tips that will truly make us better fishermen. Thank you Heath, you are the Superstar!"

"On our first trip with Heath, my friend Andrew from New York caught the biggest fish of his life in the first 15 minutes!! Heath is a great guy and a lot of fun to fish with. He really knows lake fork and goes above and beyond to make sure his customers are getting their moneys worth. I would definitely recommend him if you're looking for a guide on Lake Fork!! I also bought Heath's Ranger Boat last year and the transaction went very smooth and there were no surprises!!"

Hey Heath,
I had a great time and learned a lot. Chompin' at the bit to get out on the water..when the ice thaws! I'll definitely be back down there in the near future and you're the man I'll call. We all had fun, look forward to the next trip.

Summer Fishing Report

Hello anglers,
September is here and it’s always a busy month at Lake Fork. September marks the beginning of the summer to fall transition period. During this period, the sunlight hours continue to decrease and with the reduced amount of sunlight the water surface temperatures begin to drop. The combination of shorter days and cooler water temperatures will trigger the annual shad migration from deeper water into the backs of pockets, creeks, etc. Once the shad begin to move into the shallow waters, the bass will follow. Here are a couple techniques that I like to use during this time period.

During the early stages of the summer to fall transition the bass will be schooling at various times throughout the day. My favorite baits for schooling action are a Yellow Magic top water bait, a 1/4oz rattle bait, and a shallow/medium running crankbait. When the fish begin to surface, cast your top water bait as close to the school as possible. Work the bait quickly; making it “spit” water as you work the bait. If the school is too far away to reach with the top water bait, opt for the 1/4oz rattle bait. Make a long cast with the bait and work the bait just under the surface. Usually, both of these techniques will work very well as long as the school is actively feeding. Once the schooling action slows, work the area over with a shad colored crankbait. Start with a shallow running crankbait and then move to a medium running crankbait. The crankbaits will usually catch a couple more fish out of the school. For the top water baits, I’m using 15lb PowerSilk fishing line and a Falcon Cara T7 “Weightless Worm” rod.

Another way to catch’em during the early stages of the summer to fall transition period is fishing deep structure spots. (Main lake points, Secondary points, Roadbeds, Humps, Pond dams, Creek Channel Bends, etc) When fishing deep structure, you will need to rely heavily on your electronics. The key to being successful when fishing deep structure is to make sure both shad and fish are present on the spot. If the shad/fish are relating to the bottom, then a Texas Rigged 10” Lake Fork Trophy Lures (LFT) blue fleck worm or a Carolina Rigged LFT Green Pumpkin baby creature bait are good choices. If the shad/fish are suspended, then a LFT Flutter Spoon or a deep diving crankbait are great choice. Also, timing is critical when fishing deep structure. Each school of deep fish will feed at various times throughout the day. So, be sure to check a spot several times throughout the day.

Oh yeah, I just about forgot about the swimbait bite during this transition period. As the shad move shallow, make sure you have a swimbait tied on as well. The LFT 3.5” “Live” Magic shad is a good choice. Fish these baits anywhere there’s shad present. The swimbait really excels when fished over shallow grass beds.

Well, I hope each of you gets a chance to be out on the water this month and enjoy some great bass fishing on Lake Fork!!

My wife, Melissa, and I had a great time fishing with you. We both learned many new techniques for catching the big'uns. Your knowledge of the lake and your professionalism were outstanding. Melissa set two "personal best" records that weekend, including a nice 7lb'er! (Looked and fought like a 9+!) Great job! I would highly recommend you to anyone looking for their shot at a personal best! Can't wait to "GIT BIT" again!
Thanks Heath! Eric Wolfe

I am thinking of adding Guided Fishing Trips for the Little Guys and their Families in the July/August time frame when the Kids are out of school. The trips will be for a Half Day and be focused on fishing for Pan Fish, (Bream, Blue Gills, etc.) using Corks and Live Bait.

A Very Relaxed Environment Where The Kids Learn The Basics Of Fishing!

I Just Want The Kids To Catch Some Fish!!

I think there's alot of Families out there that are overwhelmed doing the whole Bass Thing with the Little Guys. Let's Go Have some Fun Fishing!

Contact me if you would be interested in Taking A Kid Fishing. I'll be filling in more details as we get closer to the summer.

Re: Who is a great guide on LAKE FORK?
Heath Hardwick-
Went with him last year and had a ball.
He let's you fish, doesn't give you a tour of the lake.
Give him a shout, he'll set you up.
